CIPD WINNERS
8th Jul 2010
We are over the moon (again), as last night Wave took home the gong for Best Print Advertisement 2010 at the CIPD Awards.
This was no mean feat, as we were up against the best of the best and it tops a great award season for Wave, with this trophy sitting happily alongside our other wins at the RADs and the Roses.
We would like to thank our clients for letting us get on with what we do best, which is understanding their needs and exceeding their requirements. Mike would also like to thank them for all the 'colouring in' he gets to do too.
All in all, WOOHOO!

Work has already begun working on a number of projects including recruitment for major events such as Silverstone and the Ryder Cup.

RAD AWARDS 2010 WINNERS
31st Jan 2010
This year was Wave's first entry at the RAD Awards, and it turned out to be a very successful one at that. Thursday was a day to be proud of for both our client Blandford Sub Aqua and all at Wave, as we took home the Award for Best Print Advertisement, Commercial 2010. Piping the post to the giants, Nike and Kelloggs.
The judges commented "Blandford Sub Aqua proved that a smaller client with a big idea does not need a big budget. Within a strong category this clever execution stood out for its simplicity of message"
Well we did always say, that attracting the right candidates doesn't need to cost the earth.

When digital goes tropical
24th Aug 2009
When David handed over the decorating reins for our new office to Mike Tamlyn (Creative Director), a storm was let looseâ¦
âI am really brimming with excitement at the thought of moving over to Southampton Streetâ, tells Mike, hands slightly splodged with a mixture of wallpaper paste and a rainbow of paint, rather resembling an Art Attack extra. âI am not going to give too much away, but I am going to be give you a little taste.â
Away you go then Mr T.
âIt is a cocktail mix of retro digital, nature and puritan vector art, set with a good dash of colour and a big splash of Lilt, for that totally tropical taste. Shaken for four minutes and poured over three floors of clean, modern, open plan space. Mmmmmmm Tasty.â
A superlative description Mike, not bad for an Creative Director. Of course, for those of you who would rather see for yourselves what all the fuss is about we will be holding a launch party, details of which will be released shortly. If you would like to come along (all of our clients will be automatically invited), then simply send an email to mike.tamlyn@wave-rm.co.uk with your name, organisation and contact details.
We look forward to seeing you there for a celebratory drink or two.

Client satisfaction survey 2009
8th Jun 2009
During the first quarter of 2009, Wave conducted a client satisfaction survey with some 48 of you kindly taking part. Questions covered everything from your views on our services, through to the state of the current recruitment marketplace and what you think it holds for the rest of the year.
So, without further ado, here are the main highlights:
Why do you use Wave?
Quite simply, it comes down to three main areas - cost (27% of you), ease (29%) and reliability (19%). There are a host of other reasons as well, including good customer care, location and expertise.
And are you happy with us?
(Deep breath). Well, yes you are, to the tune of 94% of you rating us as good to excellent. Which we're very proud of.
Ok, so tell us about your day-to-day contact then...
100% of those of you who answered rated your contact in the good to excellent category, so we've certainly got out work cut out for the rest of the year to keep that going.
How do our services perform?
98% of you were happy with what we're doing with you at the moment.
And what do you think is going to happen in 2009?
Perhaps the question that's been on everyone's lips for some time now, but a pertinent one nonetheless. The outlook was certainly positive, as 65% of you predicted a similar level of activity or maybe even an increase. Only 23% thought that activity levels would drop.
Finally, what's your biggest challenge at the moment?
Always a question that was going to generate a number of responses (we all have our own battles to fight after all), but dealing with a skills shortage did come out on top (35% of you), but interestingly only 10% cited the current economic climate as a problem.
So, what does that all mean for you, the client? Quite simply, we're going to continue to do what we do best and that's offering you an excellent, friendly service which delivers the results you're after. We're committed to raising the bar again and again, through new systems, new ideas and the latest expertise to make sure you're getting exactly what you need from us.
David Jenkins, our MD, also gives his thoughts: "I'm really pleased with the results of the survey. We've made some massive steps in the last 18 months to improve every part of our service, and we've seen that recognised by the people that matter, our clients.
We can't afford to rest on our laurels though, and our aim is to build on this to improve for next year, so this was a great benchmarking activity. Our goal is to become the best recruitment marketing agency in the country, we're not there yet, but we are certainly on the right track. More hard work is ahead, but there's much more to come from Wave in the next 12 months, so watch this space."
Many thanks to all of you who completed the survey. If you didn't and want to make sure you take part in the next one, then please do get in contact via our website or email <a href="mailto:nick.homer@wave-rm.co.uk">nick.homer@wave-rm.co.uk</a>

Jobs and the budget
23rd Apr 2009
Supplied by Claire West of www.freshbusinessthinking.com, we bring you comment on the most important budget in modern times and how that influences the HR arena. The Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) considers the latest âBudget for Jobsâ a modest affair, but recognises that the Chancellor had limited room for manoeuvre.
John Philpott, CIPD Chief Economist comments as follows:
Economic Outlook
âThe Chancellor appeared relatively upbeat on his economic growth forecasts, but was probably more sober than expected on the outlook for public borrowing. Consequently the Chancellorâs scope to announce a major âBudget for Jobsâ was limited and is unlikely to prevent unemployment rising above 3 million by next Spring.
Package of support for long-term youth unemployed
âThe CIPD has consistently highlighted jobless young people as in particular need of targeted action. Although the Chancellor was not in a position to do much the package aimed at the under 25s offers a good âbang for its buckâ in creating opportunities for work and training.
âThe experience of past schemes is that they provide short-term relief to the young jobless but do little to enhance their long-term employability. Providing support which is more than simply âmake workâ will be the acid test of this new initiative.
â18-24 year olds who are already unemployed may be disappointed that the new guarantee will not come into full effect before January 2010. However it is important to recognise that the measures will kick in when the number of young people flowing into long-term unemployment is likely to be close to its peak.
âIn this context it also makes sense to provide additional funding to keep 16-18 year olds in further education given that employers are not hiring.
Statutory Redundancy Pay
âWhile the increase in statutory redundancy payments to £380 might be welcomed by those facing job losses, it could damage the willingness of employers to recruit during the recovery and slow the fall in unemployment.
Public Sector Efficiency Savings
âAt a time of strain in the public finances it is important that the public sector operates as efficiently as possible. The Chancellorâs proposed efficiency savings are not out of line with what organisations in other sectors would expect to make.â
Practice what we preach
25th Mar 2009
There has been a lot of talk around how important the employer brand is during a recession and rightly so. Remember, your employer brand is what people are saying about you in terms of the employment experience, internally and externally. If you're not recruiting right now, your brand is still there, you can't switch it on and off like a light when feel like it.
So right now, how will employer brands be affected in this current market? Well that depends on the employers reaction to any downturn they face. We're knocking on 2 million people unemployed and redundancies have been rife. You must consider that your actions will affect the current brand. So if you are making people redundant, the manner in which you do this will weaken or strengthen the brand (yes strengthen) accordingly. Cutting people out of an organisation as if they are purely numbers on payroll with little or no compassion will send all those unfortunate enough to lose their jobs into the market with nothing but negative comments. Remember how bad news travels faster than good. Now think about all those people on Twitter and Facebook. The brand you spent thousands on strengthening during the boom years has just been wiped out.
By communicating with employees around the challenges faced by an organisation, you create inclusion and engagement - even in hard times. If redundancies are still needed, there is so much more understanding around the outcome. If it is handled with consideration and compassion for the outgoing employees, it is likely any bitterness or frustration will be pointed to the climate rather than the organisation, with the "company-did-all-it-could-to-keep-me" attitude. This behaviour could strengthen the brand and so during more buoyant times, it will be remembered how you treated people with respect.
Our industry has been no different to others, we need to ensure we are practicing good employer brand ethics. During good times and bad.
New website is up and away
10th Mar 2009
Yes, we know that we're in danger of stating the obvious, but we felt that we needed to set this date in history and rightly so.
Excuse the pun, but yes, this site is a little 'Flashy' to say the least, and those of you viewing this site in Flash 9 are missing out on the 3D element, so updating with the FREE Flash 10 plug-in is well worth it.
If you're restricted to viewing this site in HTML and your Administrators feel that Flash 10 is not for you, I hope you still enjoy the site and find it informative, but why not put your curiosity to bed when you get home and take a little peak to see what all the fuss is about?
I'll do my best to regularly update the gallery and news pages and keep you updated with what's going on at the world of Wave and the industry as a whole.
Oh, and I'll try not to waffle and go off on one either, which will be a first.
I'll let you continue to have a "butcher's" about now, but if you get a bit sea sick on your voyage of discovery, just remember you don't have to wobble your mouse about like a jelly when trying to read the copy, like Russell one of our designers did!
If you have any comments or just want to get in touch, please feel free to email me, David or Nick - you'll find us all in the 'About us' section.
We all hope you enjoy the new look Wave site and we'll look forward to hearing from you soon.
